The Nowst in summer and autumn
|
Hoswick Beach House is situated in the village of Hoswick, which is on the west side of the district of Sandwick. Hoswick probably grew as a predominantly fishing village, serving the nearby former fishing station at Broonie's Taing which was at it's hight in the early 1900's but declined by the late 1930's. Hoswick used to have Shetland tweed weaving, but this finished in the 1980's and the Visitor Centre (tearoom and museum) is housed in one of the former weaving sheds. Shetland knitwear is still finished and marketed from the L.J.Smith premises in Hoswick, where knitwear can be purchased. Some Hoswick history - the whales on the beach and salting and drying fish The Barclay Arms Hotel is located in Hoswick, up the hill at the top of the village, and has bars, food and accomodation. There is often live music, often traditional. Look here for general information on the Sandwick Community , including Hoswick.
